Whether you’ve just injured yourself, or have been frustrated by a pain that just won’t go away, we can help….

At Carlton Physio we don’t just roll out the same treatment every time we see someone with the same condition. For us it’s all about understanding the body in front of us. We care as much about what you want to be able to do, what has worked well (or what hasn’t worked well) previously, and understanding the impact your pain is having on your life, as we do your specific diagnosis. This allows us to provide personalised management programmes that meet your unique requirements. We’ve found offering achievable programmes that work around your priorities allows us to support long term change, paving the way for a life that isn’t ruled by your bodies’ limitations.

We love nothing more than seeing our clients bodies perform in ways they never thought they’d be able to. Whether it’s being able to pick up your grandchild, make it through a project delivery at work without daily headaches, or getting back to your normal exercise after an injury, there is no goal too big or small. If it’s important to you, then it’s important to us.

How we can help

I have pain

Pain is the most common reason people come in to see us. At your first appointment, not only is it a priority to reduce your pain, but also to help you understand why you have pain and what you can be doing at home to help between sessions. We always aim for the best possible results, and will recommend treatment plans with this in mind.

For some who come in with pain, we can provide quick and simple fixes and our time together is quite short. For others, with recurrent or persistent , we can be in for a longer journey as we work together to find underlying contributing factors. Persistent and recurrent pain can not only be extraordinarily frustrating for you, but also quite complex to manage effectively. Our experienced physios have the ability to navigate this and recognise that nuance is required to find the balance between doing enough and doing too much. With our years of experience we know that a personalised approach is what gets the best outcomes in this situation. We also understand that you, as the expert of your own body (including knowing what has and hasn’t worked as treatment strategies in the past), are an integral part of the treatment team.

Our goal is always to see you progressing. If at any stage your recovery is not progressing, or we feel more information is needed to determine the best path forwards we will support you in the process of determining who needs to be involved in your care and facilitating communication so everything is as smooth as possible for you.

I have an injury

Big or small, injuries often come with a lot of questions and uncertainty whether that be around immediate challenges or long-term implications. For some it will come with the added challenge of navigating the public hospital system for the first time, or a workcover or TAC claim. Depending on the injury recovery times can be quite different, and we will do our best to give you a reasonable expectation of how long we would expect your recovery to take, and to make sure your physio treatments are delivered at the right time in your management – there is no one size fits all approach here.

We can provide support across all phases of injury recovery, from first point assessment to end stage rehab. If you have an acute injury and haven’t seen a doctor we can assess your need for imaging or further medical intervention, alongside helping you with decision making about short term activity modifications (don’t worry runners, we will do our best to keep you running if its at all possible!!) or adaptions to allow you to continue day to day activities. As you progress through returning to normal life and then into long term management we will often see you less frequently, but will always be there to support you through any flare ups or give you a bit of a push if your motivation fades over time. For some injuries recovery is non-linear, and it can be challenging to keep yourself going with your rehab. We totally understand that life happens and things can get in your way. You can always expect an understanding ear and no judgement if those exercises haven’t been done exactly as prescribed.

I need rehabilitation following surgery or after a broken bone

Our team has extensive experience taking care of patients through post-operative or post-fracture rehabilitation. Not only do we want you to feel better as soon as possible, but we also want you to move as well as possible to avoid long-term repercussions.

My body is holding me back from being as active as I'd like to be

Everyone understands that exercise is beneficial, but not everyone’s body likes it! Whether you have a previous injury that is holding you back, are returning to activity after illness or surgery, or have just begun being more active and are experiencing more aches and pains than you would like, we can assist. A thorough assessment enables us to determine why certain muscles are tight or joints are stiff. Not only can we provide you with specific exercises to ensure that you are moving in a way that works for you, we also advise you on how to increase your activity levels safely without triggering any discomfort and help develop a plan for how to manage if you do overdo it.

We run exercise programs at the clinic for those looking for a little more support, including the GLA:D Programme for hip and knee osteoarthritis, and 1:1 reformer-based exercise sessions.

I'm concerned about my posture

Fun fact: each body has a unique ideal posture. Gone are the days when everyone was told to sit tall and bring their shoulders back and down. If you are experiencing pain while sitting or standing for an extended period of time, our physiotherapists can help. Combining information about when you are sore, what you do for work, hobbies, and how you move, allows us to provide targeted, individualised treatments. We provide advice on modifications that will help tight muscles relax and weak muscles work harder, optimising your resting posture and ensuring you have adequate control when active.

Why choose us?

At Carlton Physio we understand that everyone starts their journey at a different point. We also understand that what looks like success varies widely depending on your lifestyle, age and physical capacity. We pride ourselves in providing treatments that meet your personal needs whilst aligning with current evidence on best practice.

Our physiotherapists are all high achievers. We are known within the physiotherapy world as experts, especially in the management of jaw conditions, and have multiple therapists with post graduate qualifications. There are only a small percentage of physiotherapists in Australia who are Titled members of the Australian College of Physiotherapy, we currently have four working here.

We pride ourselves at Carlton Physio on our knowledge and skills. We prioritise supporting our less experienced therapists through 1:1 supervision and our inservice program, ensuring that all clients have access to the shared knowledge of our near 80 years combined experience.
