What is GLA:D?
GLA:D (Good Life with Arthritis Denmark) is an evidence based education and exercise program for people with hip and knee osteoarthritis. Research using this program has found improvement in symptoms and long term satisfaction.
How does it work?
After an initial assessment with our GLA:D trained physiotherapist you will be provided with access to online education sessions and complete 12 exercise sessions (generally twice a week over 6 weeks) which are tailored to your specific abilities and progressed across the sessions. You will then have a final session to check your progress and discuss long term strategies.
Who can participate?
Anyone with a diagnosis of osteoarthritis in the hip or knee can participate in this class. It doesn’t matter what your level of function is, your physio will adjust the program to meet your personal needs.
What are the classes like?
Classes at Carlton Physio will contain a maximum of three participants. You start with a gentle warm up and then move between a number of stations to complete your exercises. Your physio will make sure you are working at the correct level and doing everything properly. The exercises are all simple and involve minimal equipment so you can practice in between sessions at home.
Do I need a referral?
You do not need a referral to complete the GLA:D program. You may wish to get a Chronic Disease Management plan from your GP which you can use for a Medicare rebate on your initial and final assessment sessions.
What does it cost?
Please see the services page for current pricing. Discounts exist for both existing clients and for those paying upfront for the series of sessions. If you have Private Health Insurance with Extras you can claim both the assessment and exercise sessions. A Medicare referral from your GP will only get a rebate for the assessment sessions.
